My name is Alexander and I am Emelia’s dad. We are refugees. My wife, Diana and I got married aged 22 and 23. We also have a son. Our daughter misses home and her 2 dogs and 2 cats. I have colleagues and my mother-in-law in Russia. They do not support Putin or believe his lies but sadly there are many who do.

My name is Anna. My son, Ilya, has autism. Before the war began, his autism was calming down, but since hearing the bombs and sirens it has worsened. Even since we have arrived in Denmark, if he hears a train make a loud noise, he shouts “we are going to die now!” It is very hard. He is a good boy and is helping out at the hotel.

It has been an honour to serve my country, like my grandfather before, but now I am 60 and therefore too old to continue. My son is 35 years old and is serving with the Ukrainian army in the Donbass region.

My parents got married at 18 and have now been together for 30 years! They’re still together - in Ukraine, in danger. When I left for Denmark, I just took two pairs of jeans and two hoodies. My dad asked me “why don’t you take more valuables with you?” My answer: If I could take more with me, it would be you, mum, my cat and rabbit.

At 5am we woke up to noisy explosions. We were very scared and my mother said the war had begun. Rockets were flying constantly, and something exploded. On the 7th day of the war, fighting broke out near our city. We almost lived in the basement for 10 days, always warmly dressed. We decided to flee when the tanks came. Thank you DK.

My Partner and I fled from Ukraine under the sound of bombing and gunfire. It was frightening. We made it out of Ukraine. I wanted to return, but was denied access. We are now in Copenhagen, hoping that my country will get through this tragedy.

After secondary school, I started medical school in Kyiv. I don’t want to be a doctor and don’t know what I want to do now, esp-ecially now that I’m sitting in a hotel in Copenhagen getting very bored. My parents are still in Zapor-izhzhya and fear for their lives. I had family in Russia, but they believe Putin, so I can’t call them family.

Every day I prayed to God to protect me and my children. And God heard my prayers. In Denmark, I calmed down, but daily I dream of my prosperous Ukraine

When I arrived, I slept for a week. By March 27th, my flat complex was bombed. I no longer have a home or business in Ukraine. Harkiv has been totally destroyed.
